Another Training in Heavy Weather Conditions
Intensive heavy weather training led by Genís took place this weekend at Base Mini Barcelona.
With strong winds and short, steep seas, the sessions focused on real offshore scenarios, including sail reduction under load, downwind control, broach prevention, and safe deck work in demanding conditions.
Last weekend also welcomed new sailors who have recently joined the base to begin their offshore preparation, giving them early exposure to real racing conditions and allowing them to integrate quickly into the training program.
The training forms part of Base Mini Barcelona’s ongoing offshore preparation plan, aimed at sailors preparing for solo races, qualification passages, and long-distance campaigns.

Intensive Weekend Training in Heavy Weather Conditions
Last weekend, we completed an intensive training session with Nicolo under particularly demanding weather conditions.
Strong winds and rough seas set the stage for a realistic offshore training experience, with gusts reaching up to 50 knots on Sunday.
The session focused on boat handling in extreme weather conditions, sailing in heavy weather allowed sailors to test both their technical skills and their mental resilience, reinforcing the importance of preparation when sailing offshore in the Mini 6.50 class.
Despite the challenging conditions, the training proved highly valuable, working closely with Nicolo on the De-Briefing to understand how to trim properly the sails and the mast.
Facing strong winds and harsh seas provided lessons that are difficult to replicate, strengthening both seamanship and confidence ahead of future offshore challenges.

Mini-Transat Race De-Briefing at BISC
Skippers from Base Mini Barcelona gathered for a dedicated debriefing meeting following their recent offshore race, sharing insights and reflections from their solo ocean experiences.
Drawing from their personal experiences, they offered an inside look at the realities of solo sailing, beyond the competitive aspect of the race.
The sailors shared stories about daily life on board, including managing physical fatigue, facing storms, and coping with isolation during long passages.
They emphasized how preparation, mental strength, and decision-making are just as critical as technical sailing skills when spending weeks alone in the open ocean.
The debrief provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the challenges of offshore racing and to exchange knowledge gained during the race.
For Base Mini Barcelona, the meeting reinforced the importance of experience-sharing as part of the development and support of sailors preparing for the demanding world of solo ocean racing.

The Skippers Meet Students of the "22 Dies en 22 Peus" program at Schools
The skippers from Base Mini Barcelona took part in two consecutive days of meetings with schoolchildren enrolled in the educational program “22 Days in 22 Feet”, an initiative that brings ocean racing into the classroom through the Mini Transat experience.
The sessions connected students with the world of solo offshore sailing, allowing them to follow the Mini Transat race while learning about navigation, weather, resilience, and life at sea.
Over the course of the two days, the skippers answered a wide range of questions from curious students, eager to understand what it truly means to sail alone across the ocean on a 6.50-meter boat.
For many students, the highlight was hearing directly from the skippers about the emotional side of solo sailing — moments of doubt, fear, and joy — and how they stay motivated when there is no one else on board to rely on.
The exchanges turned complex concepts like self-sufficiency, risk management, and perseverance into relatable lessons.
The “22 Days in 22 Feet” program aims to inspire young people through real sporting adventures, using the Mini Transat as a tool to spark curiosity and promote learning beyond traditional classrooms.
The involvement of Base Mini Barcelona skippers offered students a rare and authentic insight into one of the most demanding disciplines in offshore racing.

Crossing the Atlantic: Real Stories from Base MINI Barcelona Skippers
BISC will host a special talk session with the skippers of Base MINI Barcelona, offering a rare and honest look into what it really means to cross the Atlantic solo.

These are the stories rarely told, but deeply felt by anyone who has crossed an ocean alone.
The evening will finish with an open Q&A, giving the audience the chance to ask questions directly to the skippers. Whether you're a sailor, a dreamer, or simply curious about life at the edge of human endurance, this is an opportunity to hear unfiltered stories and engage in an honest conversation.
Join us for an evening of raw stories, hard lessons, and deep passion for the ocean — straight from the sailors who have lived it.

Hugo Ramón and Miguel Rondón Make History: Two Spaniards Reach Four Mini-Transat Finishes in 2025
The Mini Transat 6.50 has long stood as one of the most demanding challenges in ocean racing.
Sailing solo across the Atlantic in a 6.50-meter boat, without assistance and without external communication, is a test of pure endurance, mental resilience, and seamanship.
In 2025, this legendary race delivered an unprecedented milestone for Spanish sailing: Hugo Ramón and Miguel Rondón became the first Spaniards to complete four editions of the Mini Transat, joining a very small group of sailors worldwide who have achieved this feat.
Both Hugo and Miguel had already built respected reputations within the Mini Transat scene, but their participation in the 2025 edition elevates them to the ranks of offshore-sailing icons.
Until now, only a handful of sailors globally had managed to complete the race four times. In 2025, Spain now proudly counts two names in that exclusive club.
Hugo Ramón, reached his fourth crossing after earlier participations in 2005, 2007 and 2009.
Miguel Rondón matched the achievement by successfully completing his fourth consecutive transatlantic race 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025, further strengthening his status as one of the most consistent and determined figures in the Mini class.
An Achievement that goes beyond competition, the significance of their accomplishment lies not only in the number of participations but in what finishing the Mini Transat truly represents.
Finishing a single Mini Transat is already considered a triumph. Completing it four times speaks of exceptional discipline, preparation, talent and an extraordinary connection with the sea.
A Moment of Pride for Spanish Sailing, the 2025 double milestone places Spain firmly among the great nations of the Mini class.
Their achievements have been warmly celebrated within the sailing community, which recognizes the inspiration they provide to a new generation of ocean racers.
